The Friends are a non-profit (501-C3) organization dedicated to the support of the Library.
Their primary role is fundraising to support special programming and events for the library. The main fundraiser is our book sale, held the Saturday before Memorial Day (May) and the Saturday before Columbus Day (October).
Donations made to the Friend's group are tax-deductible. To this end, and with a generous grant from the Gladys Brooks Foundation, The Friends have started a Book Endowment Fund which ultimately will fund all of the library's yearly book purchasing needs.
The Friends also raise funds to support a variety of library programs including the annual Library Card Party for Lancaster School first-graders, Wonderplay children's program, and various programs from the NH Humanities Council.
In addition, The Friends helped with renovations and beautifications, including the restoration of Wingate Hall (downstairs), landscaping, and some very fun items for the Children's Department.
The Friends support the library in other ways. They help with the annual spring cleaning every February. And when the library celebrated its 100th year, the Friends hosted the day-long Open House.
The Friends of the Weeks Memorial Library is committed to the principle of equal opportunity in access and education. This organization does not discriminate against individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, ancestry, or national or ethnic origin.
